Creating your first form

Welcome to Ray’s Contact Form! In this guide, you’ll create a simple contact form and publish it on your website in just a few minutes.

By the end of this tutorial, you will:

  • Create a new form
  • Add basic fields
  • Configure email notifications
  • Insert the form into a page
  • Test your form

Let’s get started.

Step 1: Create a New Form

  1. Go to your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Click Ray’s Contact Form in the left admin menu.
  3. Click Add New Form (or “Create Form” if it’s your first one).
  4. Give your form a name (for example: Contact Us).
  5. Click Save.

You are now inside the Form Builder.

Step 2: Add Basic Fields

In the Structure tab, you will see Basic Fields such as:

  • Text
  • Email
  • Textarea

Let’s add the three essential fields for a simple contact form.

Add a Name Field

  1. Click Text.
  2. A new field will appear in the form.
  3. Click the field to open Field Settings.
  4. Change the Label to: Full Name.
  5. Enable Required.

Add an Email Field

  1. Click Email.
  2. Click the field to open Field Settings.
  3. Change the Label to: Email Address.
  4. Enable Required.

Add a Message Field

  1. Click Textarea.
  2. Click the field to edit it.
  3. Change the Label to: Message.
  4. Enable Required.

Your form now has three essential fields.

Step 3: Customize the Submit Button (Optional)

  1. Go to the Form Settings tab.
  2. Find the Submit Button Text setting.
  3. Change it to something like:
    • Send Message
    • Submit Inquiry
    • Contact Us

Click Save.

Step 4: Configure Email Notifications

By default, form submissions are sent to your WordPress admin email.

To customize:

  1. Go to the Form Settings tab.
  2. Locate the Email Settings section.
  3. Set the Recipient Email (if needed).
  4. Edit the Email Subject (example: New Contact Form Submission).
  5. Customize the email message body if desired.

Click Save.

Step 5: Choose a Theme

On the right-hand side, you’ll see the Theme Preview panel.

  1. Use the Theme dropdown.
  2. Select a theme.
  3. Watch the live preview update instantly.

Choose the design that matches your website.

Step 6: Save Your Form

Always click Save Form after making changes.

This ensures your latest edits are stored.

Step 7: Add the Form to a Page

To display your form on your website:

  1. Go to Forms.
  2. Copy the shortcode shown next to your form.
    Example:

[rayscontact id=”123″]

  1. Go to Pages → Add New.
  2. Paste the shortcode into the page content.
  3. Click Publish.

Your form is now live!

Step 8: Test Your Form

  1. Visit the page where you added the form.
  2. Fill in the fields.
  3. Submit the form.
  4. Check your email inbox.

If you receive the email, everything is working correctly.
